Honda GL1500

First impressions from Stu Oltman while testing our trailer for the Wingworld Product Review

Chris,
I've now logged more than 3000 miles with the trailer attached, and the results were astounding. It took a bit of time to become accustomed to the slight top-heavy feel created, but I eventually treated the bike as if the trailer wasn't there at all (except at slow speed). This included some really stupid high speed riding through twisty river canyons in northern California. When we finished that segment, the trailer tire's wear pattern extended almost to the tread shoulder. I had another bike riding behind me, taking pictures and reporting the trailer's behavior to me via radio.

The last several hundred miles of the trip were ridden in horrible gusting winds of 25 to 30 mph gusting to 40 mph. This would normally create a lot of work for the rider, and I'm sure that the presence of the trailer enhanced the effect somewhat. Still, the trailer remained steady behind the bike. A fellow driving a truck came over to speak with me at a fuel stop and reported that he'd been following two other bikers towing two-wheeled trailers before coming up behind me. He said that those other trailers had been swaying to and fro in response to the wind gusts, while mine had remained rather motionless behind the motorcycle. Another nice feature of the Uni-go is that it appeared not to affect fuel mileage to any significant degree.

What I need now is a bit of background on your company and it's main players. How (and why) did you get started in all of this? Where did the idea come from? How did the Uni-go progress from idea to saleable product?

Regards,
Stu Oltman

BMW R1150RT

Gentlemen,

Hopefully you will enjoy the attached pictures that I'm sending to you. This past weekend I took my first trip, thanks to both of you, with my Unigo Trailer. This trip consisted of about 1000 miles of great motorcycle roads with the Unigo behind my BMW R1150RT. The pictures were taken when I returned home.

Not only does the Unigo look great behind my motorcycle it preformed flawlessly. I found myself looking in the mirrors to make sure that the trailer was still there. Several fellow riders ask me what it was like to tow the Unigo. I told each of them that I couldn't tell that the Unigo was behind my motorcycle. It moves as one with the bike.

The first picture is before I started to unpack, the second and third are pictures of all of the "stuff" that I had inside the Unigo. All this stuff still didn't full the trailer!

Thanks to both of you I greatly looks forward to my next trip,

Dennis Shelley

BMW K1200lt 1999 / FlexIt Sidecar and Uni-Go Trailer (see picture)

Recived the Uni-Go before Easter 2002 and hooked it on to the Bike where it has hung since.
We have rode almost 20000Km til now on warious road conditions. Been on a longer trip thru Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Polen, Germany, Denamark and Sweden at the end before we got back to Norway. This trip was done in 14 days and the distance covered was roughly 7200km. The Uni-Go was never a reason to delay. At the Autobahn we even tested if the top speed realy was 215kmh as the brochure is boasting of! We found that it was touing great up to 180kmh, but at higher speed it started to wobble quite a lot.

However, the next day we put some more load in the Uni-Go and rearanged the load some to make room for the new stuff we bought. The bike and trailer became one unit, whatever speed we had. (My gps was showing a max speed of 230,5Kmh, as the speedometer on the LT quit at 220Kmh and has an inaccuracy of 9% to high speed). So we are very pleased with that. (Have to say that the Flexit-sidecar was left home in the garage on this trip, with the sidecar connected the speed will be no higher than about 180Kmh anyway.

Earlier I had a two-wheeled trailer; an early model Bushtec Turbo, this trailer handled very well to, it had 16" wheels and air suspended shocks. However on my K1200lt/Flexit combination the Uni-Go one wheel made a better comprehensive solution, it looks more like everything is made by the same factory ( people are asking if it is delivered by BMW, as is). The max touring speed on the two wheel trailer I never tested, but up towards 150kmh were never a problem. The maximum speed was however limited to 120kmh by Bushtec (my be because of the max speed for the tires). I'll attach a pic of my GPS as it looked after our 7000+ km tour around Balticum. Note the max speed towing the Uni-Go.

BMW R1100RT

Hi Chris,

Just wanted to send my thanks to you and the boys who helped me get a few trailer problems sorted out recently when I was in NZ. (BMW R1100RT)

My trailer was one of the originals from about 3 - 4 years ago and I discovered that you have made quite a few improvements and modifications your teams have made since then. I was extremely pleased with the service given by both yourself and your staff. I was supplied with a complete new chassis, trailer hitch with the new modifications, together with all assistance to fit the new hitch to my bike.

I understand that my trailer was well outside any warranty period and I was therefore very pleased when I was not presented with any bill.

I understand that you are a relatively new company, but you have not let this get in the way of you customer focus. I believe that is what allows a company to stand out from its competitors. Well done and keep up the good work.

I wish you every success and would be happy if you decided to post this testimonial on your website or any other form of advertising. I am happy to be contacted on the following e-mail if anyone wants to verify what I have said. You may also post this e-mail address if you wish: loston2wheels@hotmail.com

Our trip with the new trailer was a complete success. Attached is a picture from the trip that you can use as you wish.

The trailer works great. The handling and gas mileage are not effected at all. It allows you to get weight off of the bike so that I believe handling is improved when compared to over loading as we often do on long trips. We were able to take a small cooler for lunches and drinks and this made many fine picnics possible.

I really appreciate you jumping to the challenge and getting one to us in time for this adventure. We covered over 7,000 miles from Denver into Canada, the Pacific Northwest and then home. A great trip made greater by Uni-go and you.

I believe I paid for a chrome wheel and would like to know if you have the chrome wheel to send me so that I can send this other one back?

Best wishes, and thanks again.

Harley Davidson Road Glide

We have been meaning to contact you to tell you how much we are enjoying our trailer we purchased from you. No matter where we have gone this summer, people stop to ask "what is that", "where did you get that" and "how does it handle." People roll down their car windows at intersections to ask us about it, and bikers catch up with us on the freeway to ask about it.

This has been the clear ticket for traveling for us. We had a wonderful trip in mid-July, except for a flat tire going 65 down the freeway and we are convinced our "extra wheel" of the trailer helped keep us upright. When we stopped for the night and checked into our motels, we just wheeled the Uni-go into our room with us. It's great! Chet also took it to Sturgis this year. His tent, sleeping bag, and all his gear fit in it just perfect.

If anyone ever wants to contact any of your customers for verification of how this trailer handles, you may have them get in touch with us as we would be more than happy to tell them how pleased we are with it. You don't even feel it behind the bike.

I will attempt to e-mail one of the pictures of our bike with the trailer attached.

Thanks again,
Chet and Shelby Prentiss

BMW R1200C

Hi Chris, we bought a Uni-go last summer from Wayne Coursey / Pam Imports one of your dealers. The reason we did that was to take the bike/trailer on our honeymoon to Wisconsin in October. To help you remember who we are, We have a 98 R1200C BMW and I called you then e-mailed you a couple of pictures, to help me on the installation around the saddle bags. I figured it out and did some tweaking to the upper brackets behind the saddle bags. Every thing works fine we love it totally. I have been a mechanic most of my life and did some customizing to make it even more perfect for us. We went over 1600 miles on the week honeymoon and haven't unhooked it since. We even use it to go get groceries. We just wanted to thank you for the awesome service, especially with you being so far away. If you are interested in the customizing for some reason let me know and I can take some closer pictures so you can see better. Thanks again for helping the honeymoon go so great.

First I want to say that you and your company know how to put out a great product. I received the box on 5-28-03 and I thought that it was Christmas all over again, I had a hard time not opening it up right a way but I had to take of some other things first. When I started opening the box with the wife with me I was astounded by the way that the trailer was packed, it was like unwrapping a Bentley and it was so beautiful. I started today putting it all together and with a little trial and error I got the toll bar on and put the trailer on it's chassis leaving the wiring for tomorrow. I will send you some pictures when completed so you can put them into your photo album. I can't say enough about your trailer and I sure will show it off to anybody that is interested and I sure will give them your address so they can purchase a trailer like mine. I really don't know how to thank you for such a great product, sales and service.

Honda Valkyrie Interstate

We recently returned to Southern California from a 3600 mile tour of the Black Hills of South Dakota, USA, with our Uni-Go trailing our Valkyrie Interstate. The highest praise I can offer for any product is that it works as advertised. Well, I've come to believe that the Uni-Go trailer works even better, because I didn't realize the full promise of your advertising. Our Uni-Go (named Eeyore) tracked straight, true and unobtrusively through desert heat, mountain rain and over every type of road surface possible. We were one day behind tornadoes and got some pretty stiff winds in Nebraska and Kansas. This slowed us down a little, but I don't think our Valkyrie was any more affected than if we hadn't had Eeyore cruising behind.

Even though we have always been packed like gypsies on the road, I have never believed in hooking a two-wheeled trailer to a perfectly good motorcycle. Since the physical appearances of your limited number of one-wheeled competitors would scare a brave man, I was very interested when I surfed into your site last year and first saw your handsome, customizable, product. I'd like to thank your Staff and your South Western USA Distributor, Jim Scoggins, in Las Vegas, for quick replies to all my questions and for making the purchase and driveway-delivery of my Uni-Go seamless.

Now we have the luxury of packing what we want in a neat fashion, going several days between laundromats, and just having room to shuck off gear and stow it while we walk through that museum. Also, Eeyore is a people magnet. Most bike folks seem to know a little bit about the Uni-Go but are thrilled to see one. In Utah, a couple followed us off the interstate to a gas station; they want one for their Gold Wing, but "Could they be as good as they sound?".
YES, better.

Congratulations to your entire Company. You have a great product.

Yamaha Virago 1100

I recently returned from a 35 day cross country motorcycle trip taking me from San Diego, California to Digby, Nova Scotia and back via Vancouver, British Columbia. What a beautiful trip. I can't tell you how wonderful this trip was, due in part to the new Uni-go trailer purchased just for this trip.
There wasn't one day that passed that at least one person asked me about the trailer - even confirmed "Harley" riders approached my Japanese bike just to take a closer look at the trailer. My usual remarks (memorized due to having to repeat so often) included the aerodynamic styling, the ease of pulling, the flawless tracking ability, and of course, the famous universal hitch. It was a joy to tow this "weightless" trailer.
Thank you for your outstanding product. I am constantly recommending your Uni-go trailer as the best on the market.

I am really enjoying my trailer. My CBR600F3 is much more versatile now, with the Uni-Go in tow I am able to leave the car or truck at home, save gas, enjoy my bike, and still get the shopping done. Thanks for a great product and the absolute best thing to come along for sport-bike touring ever.

Honda PC800

Well, I'm no longer a Uni-Go virgin! Last weekend I rode my PC800 back from Ottawa Canada to Chicago, a total distance of 940 miles. The trailer was amazing. I couldn't even feel it back there. During that ride I had the 'opportunity' to experience all 4 seasons. I got some rain, some sun, some wet snow, and some heat. The trailer ran flawlessly. It drew a small crowd everywhere I went.
The best thing about it was that it didn't make me change the way I ride. I loaded it up, and hit the highway. I was cruising at 160km/h for a while, and even rode at 140km/h when it was raining. At times the crosswinds were very strong, yet the trailer remained rock solid the whole time.

Warning: unsolicited commercial endorsement follows!

Just a word of endorsement for Stick, from whom I think you, can feel totally comfortable buying a Uni. Not only did Stick keep me informed as to the status of my Uni order, and answer all of my questions knowledgably, but when something went wrong, he was quick to 'make it right.' While at CCR in Santa Fe, I took my Uni in to the local Harley dealer there to see if they could spin balance my Uni tire, since I'd noticed a little 'wobble' during high speed (90+) cornering.

Well, the service guys at Santa Fe Harley -- who were REALLY nice and helpful BTW -- quickly, discovered that one of the Uni's two bearings was trashed. To make a long story short, we eventually located a replacement locally, and after a few hours, my Uni was good as new! Total cost for the bearing and Harley's labor -- about $75. Well, not only was stick helpful on the phone (his cell phone back at the Radisson), but when I got back to the hotel, he asked for my receipts and just handed me $75 cash, which he said he'd recover from the Uni folks in good time. He
couldn't have made it easier to deal with!

BTW, the bearing thing is apparently NOT a common occurrence (not another LT rear drive issue!). Stick said that's the first he's ever heard of.

As for Stick, you can feel comfortable dealing with him at any speed!

BMW K1200LT

Hi Chris, it's been awhile but I thought I would follow up and e-mail you concerning the trailer I bought from you. I kept the trailer in the box until a few weeks ago. It snows here, so I wasn't going to be riding until it quit. My k1200lt was scheduled for its 24,000 mile maintance in March so I decided to have my dealer do all the electrical on the bike and assemble the trailer as well . I just wanted to let you know how impressed both the mechanic who did the work and owner of the dealership were with the trailer! They called me about a week later and told me that they wanted to become a distributor for the uni-go and they wanted information as to how to get in touch with you! Since then, we've driven the trailer on many occasions with the bike and I can't believe how many people stop and stare at it or tell us how good looking both the trailer and bike are! Also, it handles like a dream! I don't even know it's back there! I just wanted to let you know how happy we are with the trailer! My dealer should be getting in touch with you soon, and I will be sending you a picture of the bike and trailer! Thanks again!

BMW K1200LT

Well hello there I just wanted to contact you again. It's been just about 16 months since I received my trailer. I have been to Americade twice now and have put about 2,000 miles on the trailer. It handles like a dream and my wife loves it. We packed for this trip. I had 2 pair of jeans, 2 pair of shorts, 1 dress shirt, 5 t-shirts, 1 sweatshirt, 1 long sleave t-shirt, a set of rain gear, a pair of sneakers, a pair of work boots, under garments, toiletries, a can of honda cleaner, a can of glass cleaner, 6 polishing towels, 2 water bottles, a 12 foot large cable and lock; My wife had 3 pair of jeans, 5 t-shirts, 1 dress shirt, 2 dress sweaters, undergarments, toiletries, rain gear, a pair of sneakers, a pair of shoes, a pair of boots,

The people who rode up with us were jealous because of all that we were able to bring for our 5 day trip

I saw and talked to a lot of people who just stared in awe and wanted to know about the trailer. I tell them that it handles great, sometimes you forget it's even there, and what I was able to carry. They love it!! And we still love it!!!

Thanks again

Talk to you soon.

Home safe and dry, 1100 miles later! The trailer functioned flawlessly in every respect. Pulled well, in fact, it was virtually transparent except for a small reduction in acceleration which might just as well have been due to headwind.

My thanks and compliments, Gentlemen!

I have made my second test ride with the trailer, and it is a Winner!!!
I made my first test ride a couple of weeks ago with an empty trailer, excellent. This past Sunday with my wife aboard and 40 pounds in the trailer was my second test ride. Great invention, if you have any one in the Ohio region who wants to see one, or hear a testimonial, have them contact me. Thanks for all of your help.

My New Uni-Go.

I received my Uni-Go exactly on the promise date. Thanks to the magnificent shipping crate, it arrived unharmed. My only problem is the box is so nice, I hate to throw it away - there must be something I can use it for!

I finally got a chance to try it out this weekend and I wasn't disappointed. With my BMW K1200LT, the Uni-Go really was unnoticeable at speeds up to 100mph (160 km/h). I didn't get a chance to go faster, but no doubt it won't be a problem. The interesting thing I noticed was that in some pretty strong crosswinds and when passing tractor-trailers (Lorries) it seemed more stable than with the bike alone. I also managed to drag the center stand in a turn and even with my 58 year old reflexes (or lack thereof) I was able to recover with minimal drama so I guess banzai cornering will also not be a problem.

Thanks,

John McKinley

Honda GL1800

In June we went to the Honda Hoot in Knoxville TN. Pulled the trailer about 1000 miles, most of them back roads, and did not feel the trailer back there at all. When we pulled into the parking lot at the hotel to pick up our registration material, the guy parking bikes insisted that we park at the front door of the hotel so people could see the trailer. With an estimated 20000 bikes in town for the "Hoot", there was a line around the trailer all evening.

We went to the Wing Ding in Madison WI over the 4th of July. Pulled the trailer about 800 miles. They estimated 13000 Gold Wings at this event. When we pulled into the parking lot at event headquarters we had people coming up and taking pictures before we could get our helmets off. At both events many people had read about the Uni GO but had not seen one or had the chance to talk to anyone who had one. From the interest shown, I would say your sales are going to pick up. At both hotels I wheeled the trailer through the lobby, put on the elevator, and stored in our room.
I will send you a picture by "snail mail"

The trailer made it to Seattle in one piece with no damage or delays, it apparently arrived the day I left town, just my luck you know. The packing crate is a work of art. Finally got the hitch installed, thank you for the new hitch, it resolved most of the installation problems. Completed the installation and trailer assembly and was able to take it out for a test ride tonight. All went every well; it tows great, no wobble or anything. I am thrilled with the trailer and am looking forward to our first big trip. We are going to take it across country late this summer.

The paint job looks absolutely fantastic and the color match is dead on. The bike and trailer look great together. OH and thanks for the inside bags, they will come in very handy.

All in all and considering the delays we encountered with the trailer I am a VERY satisfied customer whom will have nothing but positive things to say about the Unigo Company. Please pass the word on to all those involved with my trailer that I am very happy with the final product. You have a wonderful item and hope for your continued success.

PS If you are interested I will take some digital photos of the bike and trailer and send them to you for your web site, like I said the color match is perfect.

As you can see, we did it, joined the Unigo club! I must admit, first impressions are very favorable. We will give it the "real test" on our trip to Eureka Springs this weekend.
After many questions to Stick and a test ride graciously provided by the local distributor, David Gauger, we made the purchase. Unlike some of you mechanically talented individuals, we opted to have it installed by our local BMW dealer, Engle Motors, who actually do the sales for Dave. They even got us on their busy service schedule so we could be ready for our trip this coming weekend, and did a fantastic job. Norm, the owner, hasn't even had time to get one installed yet on his demo bike, but did take mine for a "Unigo-test ride", which he admitted was his first. Also had some new tires (BT020's) installed as the old 880's were getting close to retirement. If you're ever in KCMO, stop by as they are a great dealership. Norm, Mike, and Adam will always try their best to help you out.

Having not pulled a trailer for years and swearing "I'll never pull a trailer again," I was amazed at how it performs invisibly following behind the K12. I even managed to hit some good test pot holes with wife onboard, and she couldn't believe it was there either, feeling no "echo" as it passed over the bumps. Although it can't offer the storage space of the larger two wheeled trailers, the extra space it adds will make traveling much more enjoyable. We will have to learn how to pack all over again.

Don't want this to sound like another Unigo commercial, but we are very happy and looking forward to many miles with our "little shadow" in tow.

Overall, I am very happy with the way the trailer performed and the considerable amount of gear it holds. I did tend to forget it was back there. Takes a little getting used to at very low speeds- but the rest of the time it's not really noticeable. I had the bike and trailer up to 100 - 110 miles per hour - no problems. It's very convenient to pull the trailer into the motel room at night when a first floor outdoor entrance is available.

Just thought I'd drop you a line to let you know how very pleased we are with the trailer. It tows like a dream... hardly know it's there! It took us quite a while to get some decent riding weather, but now we plan to take some camping trips and the trailer is going to be invaluable. You have a terrific product and we are singing its praises!

Thank you for the effort you put in to get us on the road in time for our ride home. I was impressed with the trailer as soon as we got out on the open road, I can't remember the last time Gary cruised at only 20 km/h over the speed limit!!!

I actually felt relaxed and didn't find the need to embed my fingers into his rib cage. I was a fool to think that was going to last. About an hour and it was back to the finger embedment. Every so often Gary would turn his hazard lights on and check for any glow behind the bike that would indicate that it was still there and when we pass through different towns, he would check the shop windows for the reflection. Gary was very impressed with your Uni-go trailer. It really made no differences to the handling of the bike. I for one think that it looks great behind the bike. The interior light came in very useful as well.

Thank you for such a marvelous trailer and good luck with you future sales.
I hope to help you out by showing it off where ever we may go. If anyone asks,
I will definitely put in a good word.

I bought a Uni-go at Americade 2000. Since then I logged over 8500 mi. Took a trip to Montana, up to Glacier park, Bear tooth Mt with plenty of hair pin turns. My BMW KLT 1200 went about it's sporty business no problem. Back roads don't phase the Uni-go at all. I did get followed and asked a lot about the Uni-go. I handed out plenty brochures!

Let me begin to say the handling was superb. I couldn't tell the trailer was back there. We had it off the bike for 2 days on PEI and when It was put back on, I couldn't tell the difference.
I will say that I enjoyed the trailer. It is just the right size for us. It handles very well and we got all kinds of looks and comments. We saw another UNI-GO on PEI (of course, it was the day ours was parked).

18 months later:
My wife and I recently completed a three week, 6500 mile trip from Connecticut to Wyoming and surrounding states. We were on our 1999 K1200LT pulling our Uni-Go (purchased in 1999).
The trailer performed flawlessly and even survived a road bump* at speed that knocked the rear view mirrors off the bike.

Within the first week, we got our packing methods fine tuned using 3 large bags and numerous smaller ones to fill the nooks and crannies. We averaged about 42 mpg with both of us, loaded bags and full trailer.

We traveled on dirt, twisties and interstates at speeds from 10 - 90 mph. With a streamlined bike and trailer, we did have to slow our speed down into the 50's during some very strong cross winds that gusted to 40 -50 mph. The trailer has over 10,000 miles on it and the tire is just starting to show signs of wear. We get many questions and positive comments still and are always happy to answer.

Hi Chris: This morning I went ahead and rewired the connector brick for the tail light. The lights are now working exactly as they should. Thank you for the color code. I would have been lost without it. Finally pulled the trailer behind the bike this afternoon.

Took about a 100 mile trip down to the coast and back. The trailer works great. I can honestly say that you don't even feel it behind the bike. The hitch is very tight, no rattling at all. I am very happy with the entire rig. My wife and I will take off on a vacation for a few days soon. We will take some pictures and send them to you. Thanks again for all the email help.
